With the Solar Eclipse approaching, there is no better time to explore one of my personal favorite goddesses—Hecate. A Titaness of witchcraft, transformation, and liminal spaces, Hecate stands as a guide for those embracing change, letting go of the past, and stepping into a new phase of personal power.
Eclipses are catalysts for endings and beginnings, making Hecate the perfect ally during this celestial event. Whether you seek wisdom, protection, or guidance through shadow work, connecting with her during the eclipse can illuminate your path forward.
Origins & Associations
Mythological Origins
Hecate predates the Olympian gods, maintaining her immense power and influence despite the rise of Zeus and his kin. As the goddess of magic, spirits, and transitions, she is often depicted holding torches, symbolizing her role as a guide through the darkness—whether that be the underworld, personal transformation, or life’s uncertainties. Her presence is felt in moments of profound change, particularly during celestial shifts like a Solar Eclipse, which obscures the light and reveals hidden truths. Hecate has continued to stand the test of time, being present in more ways than one realizes.
Signs & Symbols

Hecate's symbols can deepen your understanding of her energy:
Animals: Black Dogs (protection), Snakes (transformation), and Moths (wisdom & the unseen).
Planetary Influence: While often linked to the moon, her energy resonates strongly during moments of darkness and transition—perfect for the solar eclipse when the sun is briefly obscured, as well as certain phases of the moon like the waning crescent and new moon.
Elements: Fire (illumination, torches) & Earth (crossroads, boundaries, liminality).
Sacred Plants: Garlic (protection), Belladonna & Yew (mystical and spiritual barriers).
Symbols: Torches (guidance), Keys (access to hidden knowledge), Crossroads (life-altering choices).
Colors: Black, Deep Purple, Silver, and Dark Red—each representing mystery, the unseen, and transformation.

Recognizing Hecate’s Influence
Signs Hecate is Reaching Out
Hecate’s energy is heightened during an eclipse, and she may reach out in subtle or obvious ways, including:
Encounters with her symbols – Seeing black dogs, keys, torches, or crossroads more often than usual.
A pull toward divination – Feeling an urge to use tarot, scrying, or dream interpretation.
Powerful dreams – Symbolic imagery of keys, doors, crossroads, or deep shadows guiding you.
An increase in intuition – Strong gut feelings or an ability to see through illusions.
Shadow presence – Noticing shifts in the energy around you, especially at night or during moments of deep reflection.
Ways to Honor Hecate During the Solar Eclipse
Since the Solar Eclipse represents a threshold between old and new, it's a powerful time to work with Hecate through:
Banishing & Releasing Rituals – Cut ties with old habits, toxic relationships, or stagnant energy.
Setting Intentions in the Dark – Unlike a Full Moon, an eclipse is a time to plant seeds in the void for future transformation.
Offering at a Crossroads – Leaving garlic, honey, or fresh bread at a physical or symbolic crossroads invites her guidance.
Fire Rituals – Lighting torches or candles symbolizes illuminating the unseen and embracing personal power.
Walking at Night – Connecting with her in nature, especially during the eclipse, strengthens your bond with her liminal, boundary-crossing energy.
Collaborating with Hecate: Expectations & Lessons
Working with Hecate is not for the faint of heart. She demands honesty, strength, and a willingness to face life’s darkest moments head-on. Transformation is non-negotiable – She will push you to grow, even if it’s uncomfortable. Trust is key. If you doubt yourself, she will challenge you to develop inner conviction. Discernment is crucial, for Hecate teaches how to navigate truth from illusion and make empowered choices. If you seek clarity about your path, purpose, or a decision, Hecate will illuminate the way—but only if you are prepared for the truth.

Embracing Hecate’s Wisdom
Walking with Hecate during the Solar Eclipse is an opportunity to shed outdated versions of yourself and step into your true power. As the sun darkens, it offers a blank slate for transformation—an energy Hecate thrives in.
This is not just about releasing the old, but about embracing the unknown with courage. By trusting in her guidance, you’ll find the keys to unlock your next chapter.
As we navigate this powerful celestial event, may we walk with Hecate’s wisdom—illuminated by her torches, strengthened by her presence, and unafraid of the shadows.
Until next time,
xoxo
